Annapolis (November 16, 2009) Josh Cohen, the Councilman for the 6th District of Anne Arundel County, who was elected Mayor of the City of Annapolis on Tuesday, November 2, 2009, has set his resignation date from the County Council for December 6, 2009. The process now begins to fill the upcoming vacancy on the Council. In accordance with the laws of Anne Arundel County, the upcoming vacancy must be filled by a majority vote of the remaining members of the County Council within 30 days after the vacancy occurs. In the interim, the Council will be placing an ad in a local newspaper announcing the Council’s intention of accepting applications of parties interested in filling the seat, with a deadline of December 4, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. for applications. The County Council will elect the new member at a public meeting on December 17, 2009. The requirements for the office are registration as a Democrat for the twelve-month period immediately prior to the election of the new member, residency in the Sixth Councilmanic District, and at least 25 years of age.
