Projects include park expansion and improvements, another safety turf field and a Field of Dreams for children with disabilities

Annapolis (January 28, 2009) - County Executive John R. Leopold thanked the State Board of Public Works for its vote today approving four Program Open Space (POS) grants totaling $2.4 million.

"I would like to extend my appreciation and thanks to the Governor, Comptroller and Treasurer for approving these extremely important grants," County Executive Leopold said. "The board’s approval of these grants helps us in our continued quest to expand recreational opportunities for all of our citizens and provides a safe environment to play sports for all of our young athletes."

The $2.4 million in POS grants will address the following projects:

  • Lake Waterford Field of Dreams - The state-of-the-art facility will include a baseball field and multipurpose field overlay with a surface to accommodate children and adults with disabilities.
  • Old Mill High School Stadium Renovations - The project calls for the installation of safety turf at the existing Old Mill High School Stadium.
  • Bay Head Park Expansion - The grant will help Anne Arundel County acquire 15 acres surrounding Bay Head Park. It will expand active recreation, add parking and provide a connection to the future Broadneck Peninsula Park.
  • Hancock’s Resolution Historic Park - This project provides for an entrance road and parking.
