County Executive John R. Leopold Accepts Donation from Whats Up? Publishing Group
Funds Will Supplement Department of Aging and Disabilities’ Friends of Arundel Seniors Charitable Program
Annapolis (July 17, 2008) - County Executive John R. Leopold today joined the County Department of Aging and Disabilities Director Dr. Carol Baker and Lloyd Lewis of Friends of Arundel Seniors, in receiving a $14,000 donation from Veronica Tovey, Publisher of What’s Up? Publishing Group.
"This is an outstanding example of a public/private partnership between the Department of Aging and Disabilities, Friends of Arundel Seniors, The Senior Services Providers Group and What’s Up Publishing Group to provide a useful resource publication to county residence and funds to underwrite the important work done by the Friends of Arundel Seniors," stated County Executive John Leopold. "I am very happy to accept this donation from Veronica and Watch's Up? Publishing Group to continue to keep Anne Arundel County seniors and those living with disabilities informed of the variety of services available to them and their caretakers."
Each year, What’s Up? Publishing Group in conjunction with the MAP/Information & Assistance Program of the DoAD and Senior Services Providers Group publishes the Services for Seniors Directory. This directory contains a comprehensive list of area services, both public and private, used by the aging population, adults over 18 with disabilities and their care givers, highlighting programs and initiatives of the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities.
What’s Up? magazine sells advertisements to businesses, organizations, and individuals and donates 50% of the proceeds to the Friends of Arundel Seniors organization, the department’s 501 © 3 component. Friends of Arundel Seniors oversees and supervises funds which financially assist seniors and disabled citizens of Anne Arundel County in emergency situations, when all other resources have been exhausted. This organization is both directed and run by community volunteers.
For a copy of the Services for Seniors Directory, contact Barbara Buchleitner at the Department of Aging and Disabilities at 410-222-4464.
