County Executive Leopold Extends Benefits to Volunteer Firefighters

Employees Assistance Program offers services

Annapolis (October 15, 2008)-County Executive John R. Leopold announced today that volunteer firefighters will receive benefits under the Employees Assistance Program (EAP) previously limited to career firefighters.

These services will provide essential mental health and wellness benefits to the more than 500 volunteer members of fire companies in Anne Arundel County.

"All of our members are incredibly important to us," County Executive Leopold said. "Career and volunteer firefighters are exposed to some of the most difficult situations that can be encountered and I wanted to make sure such services are available to everyone."

Beyond mental health services, the Employee Assistance Program offers a wide array of services to eligible members. The program assists members and employees with stress counseling, grief counseling, free legal consultation, financial consultation, childcare resources and referrals and eldercare resources and referrals.
