County Executive John R. Leopold Announces Temporary Hiring Freeze

'

Annapolis, MD (January 3, 2008) - Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold has called for a temporary hiring freeze effective immediately.

"With looming state budget cuts and declining transfer and recordation tax revenue, it is imperative that this Administration is proactive and fiscally responsible," said County Executive Leopold.

The County’s transfer and recordation tax revenues declined again in December 2007, falling 45 percent below last December’s numbers. In addition, approximately $300 million in cuts are still anticipated to the State’s FY2009 budget, which could affect county budgets.

This suspension of hiring will not impede the hiring of emergency personnel who provide public safety services for the county.

This administrative action applies to all employment within the executive branch and exempt contractual employee agreements not fully accomplished prior to today’s date.
