County Executive John R. Leopold announced the County’s Human Relations Commission will host an open house on Wednesday, March 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Arundel Center in Annapolis. The open house will give attendees the opportunity to get information about the Commission, interact with commissioners, and share ideas on human relations activities that members of the public would like to see sponsored in their communities. On January 16, 2008, County Executive Leopold signed and reenacted the Executive Order first issued in June 1965 that created the Human Relations Commission. The commission was established to promote fairness, eliminate discrimination and harassment and to help advance understanding and effective communication among people of different cultures. The eleven commissioners are citizens appointed by the County Executive charged with the task to provide counsel and advice to the County Executive and others on the County’s policies and actions that may affect equal rights or discrimination of citizens.
