Annapolis (April 1, 2008) - The Anne Arundel County Farmers Market will kick off the growing season by opening on Saturday, April 5th from 7 a.m. to Noon.

“I am pleased with the community support of Anne Arundel County’s locally grown produce,” said County Executive John R. Leopold. “Our farmers are providing a terrific variety of the freshest produce available through the County’s six farmers’ markets.”

The market will remain open on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to Noon through December 20th. Beginning June 10th, the Riva Road market will also be open on Tuesdays from 7 a.m. to Noon through October 28th.  Special events will include an Annual Farm Day in June, a Harvest Festival in October and a Holiday/Christmas Festival in early December. The market is located at the corner of Riva Road and Harry S. Truman Parkway in Annapolis

This is the first of six markets to open in Anne Arundel County this year.

Martin Zehner, president of the Anne Arundel County Farmers Market at Riva Road stated  “We are listening to our customers and have chosen to extend our season to allow consumers additional time to buy early season products”.  Forty four vendors will supply this farmer’s market with a variety of local products including early season bedding plants, potted plants, hanging baskets, herbs, spring vegetables, baked goods, jams, jellies, cut flowers, flavored vinegars, fresh eggs, soaps and craft items.  A much wider variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs and plants will be available as the growing season progresses.
