Annapolis, MD (May 3, 2007) - Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold announced that "the planned Wal-Mart store will not be coming to Crofton." "It is an established principle of this Administration that economic development will not proceed where the infrastructure is not adequate to service that development," said County Executive Leopold. "I am pleased to have reached an accommodation with the project’s developer and Wal-Mart to forestall the construction of the project at this site, and commend Mr. Berkshire and Wal-Mart for their willingness to come to this agreement on this specific proposal." The County Executive made the announcement after meeting this afternoon with William Berkshire, President of Lancer Corporation, General Partner of 1691 Limited Partnership and David Plott, Counsel for Wal-Mart. "Wal-Mart appreciates the hard work of County Executive Leopold and Council Members during the review of this project. We are grateful for the current relationship we have with the Administration and citizens of Anne Arundel County and look forward to working on future projects," said Public Affairs Director for Wal-Mart Keith Morris. |
