West Benfield Road Segment Down to One Lane Annapolis, MD (June 15, 2007) - Contractors working for the Department of Public Works will start the next phase of construction to replace a sanitary sewer force main at the end of this month on West Benfield Road, prompting closure of one lane during weekdays. This Capital Improvement Program project is to replace existing infrastructure serving the Ben Oaks Sewage Pumping Station. Crews will work their way from the intersection of West Benfield Road and Benfield Road down to Severnside Drive, then southwest to the pumping station. Work is complete from Windward Drive headed west on Benfield Road to the intersection of West Benfield Road. When the next phase begins, one lane of West Benfield Road will be closed Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and one lane will continue to be open for thru traffic. Motorists should anticipate delays through the Benfield Road corridor for the duration of the project and, where possible, should consider alternate routes. The entire $5.2 million project is expected to be completed in November of this year. The replacement project has been awarded to Schummer, Inc. of Mayo.
