Annapolis (November 9, 2007) - County Executive John R. Leopold announced today that the Medicare Part D Assistance Center is open for business. The Center is located in the Department of Aging and Disabilities building at 2666 Riva Road, Annapolis and is open Monday through Friday with appointments beginning at 9:00 am and the last appointment beginning at 3:00 p.m.

"I encourage eligible County residents to make an appointment to learn about health insurance options in this confidential environment," said County Executive John R. Leopold. "I am pleased to offer a dedicated assistance center to persons 55 and older and individuals over the age of 18 with a disability."

The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities’ Senior Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) counselors will be providing free, confidential, and personalized assistance to seniors, disabled persons, and their families as they sort through the Medicare Rx options available for 2008.

Appointments are strongly encouraged and can be made by calling (410) 222-4464, extension 3080. Van transportation is available for those clients who do not drive by calling (410) 222-4826.

Limited appointments are also available at each Senior Center. Please contact your local senior center for availability.

The Center will remain open through December 31, 2007. Whether receiving assistance from the Center or obtaining information elsewhere, County residents are reminded that the deadline for making application for Medicare Part D is December 31, 2007.

Individuals needing accommodations should inquire about arrangements at the time the appointment is scheduled.
