County Executive John R. Leopold announced today his Commission on Disability Issues will host Disability Awareness Day at The Centre at Glen Burnie, 6711 Ritchie Highway, on Saturday, August 25 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Attendees can expect to find information about transportation, employment, housing, recreation, and access to services. There will also be an array of displays, exhibits, and activities for the whole family. More than 40 booths will feature information from government agencies, non-profit organizations and service-oriented businesses that strive to provide services to individuals with disabilities. A special awards ceremony will honor dozens of businesses and individuals who have made a difference in the lives of persons with disabilities including Gregg Meade, Area Director for Maryland Special Olympics. County Executive Leopold’s Commission on Disability Issues promotes and enhances the quality of life for people with disabilities by advising the County Executive and the County Council on the coordination and development of government policies, programs, services and allocation of resources for people with disabilities and by proposing the means whereby the needs of citizens with disabilities can be met. |
