Water Main Break Isolated in Glen Burnie

Annapolis, MD (December 29, 2006)

The Department of Public Works reported a 12- inch water main ruptured at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2006. The main is located along northbound Ritchie Highway at Mountain Road in Glen Burnie.

"I had an opportunity to visit the scene and ensure that everything that can be done is being done to restore service to the residents and businesses," said County Executive Leopold.

The Break has been isolated and repairs are underway at this time. Residents of Americana Circle Apartments and businesses at Southdale Shopping Center, down to the Mc Donald’s at Jumpers Hole Road and Mountain Road, will be out of water for several hours.

The Fire Department is currently checking with apartment management to locate any residents with special needs.

Water tank levels are stable. Until the break was isolated, approximately 2,300 gallons/minute were lost from the system.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department is redirecting resources to ensure fire protection to residents in that area.
