County Executive Owens Makes it Official, Verizon Can Now Offer Service in the County

'

Annapolis, MD (August 23, 2006) - Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens signed the official paperwork today, allowing Verizon to start advertising and offering its service in the county.

"I’m pleased that Anne Arundel County residents now have more choice when it comes to their cable services," said County Executive Owens. "Competition is good for consumers and leads to competitive pricing and improved quality."

The County Executive along with Verizon Maryland President William R. Roberts signed the contract, which was introduced to the Anne Arundel County Council on May 30, 2006 and the franchise agreement gained approval from the County Council during a public hearing on July 5th.

"We have negotiated a strong, fair agreement that paves the way for more choice and competition in Anne Arundel County," said Mr. Roberts.

The Verizon FiOS TV is currently available in Howard County, Maryland as well as parts of California, Florida, Massachusetts, New York, Texas and Virginia.

Anne Arundel County now has three cable providers including Comcast, Millennium and Verizon.
