County Executive Janet S. Owens Names Acting Recreation and Parks Director
Annapolis, MD (May 31, 2006) - Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens announced Recreation Administrator Franklin Chaney will take over as Director of Recreation and Parks for the County.
"Mr. Callahan has been an excellent director and I wish him well," said Ms. Owens. "Franklin Chaney, a lifelong resident of Anne Arundel County is an experienced professional and has been a part of the County’s Recreation and Parks Department for 19 years. He has served as Acting Director for Dennis Callahan in the past and I am delighted to have him on board."
As Recreation Administrator, Mr. Chaney currently supervises 32 Full-Time employees, more than 600 Part-Time employees and manages a 7 million-dollar budget. He also held the position of Sports Supervisor, supervising Youth and Adult Sports, which included Boys/Girls Lacrosse, Boys Basketball, Adult Basketball, Boys Baseball, Summer Field Hockey, Summer Basketball, Youth Football and Youth Field Hockey.
Along with his duties as Acting Director, Mr. Chaney is a certified tennis instructor with the United States Tennis Professional Registry. He came to work for the County after receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree from Radford University in 1986.
Dennis Callahan resigned his position effective May 30, 2006.
