Annapolis, MD (January 25, 2006) - Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens will announce the opening of a specialized senior citizens help center in the County. The new Medicare Prescription Drug Card process has been difficult for many senior citizens, and this Assistance Center will be available to answer questions specific to Medicare Part D. "While some local senior citizens have family or friends to help with the difficult paper work, many do not, and the real tragedy is when low-income seniors are left to fend for themselves," said County Executive Owens. The Medicare Part D Assistance Center will allow County Seniors to come in, free of charge, and work with professionals from the Department of Aging and Disabilities to get the best prescription coverage for their needs. "Our goal is to provide the assistance needed by Medicare beneficiaries so that they can make informed and timely decisions that will prevent them from finding themselves in a crisis situation after May 15th," said Department of Aging and Disabilities Director Virginia Thomas. The Medicare Part D Assistance Center is located at 2666 Riva Road in the Heritage Office Complex  , Suite #110. A press conference to mark the opening will be held Friday, January 27, 2006 at 3:30 pm at the new Medicare Part D Assistance Center. |
