Annapolis (October 16, 2006) - The Department of Public Works reports that a 42” water main was punctured earlier this evening. At this time, the break has been isolated and repairs are underway. The break occurred under Marley Neck Boulevard near Green Acres Road.
Contractors working under a Utility Agreement for a nearby development inadvertently struck the line during a directional drilling operation for a new wastewater force main.
The break occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. and was isolated by Department of Public Works crews by 6:30 p.m. At this time, there are no customers out of water and supply tank levels are stable and rising.
The Fire Department has been notified of the break and is prepared to redirect resources if necessary.
Contractors working for the Department of Public Works are on-site to evaluate the damage and begin the process of repairing the line. Marley Neck Boulevard will remain closed at the location of the break overnight and possibly through morning rush hour. Except for local traffic, the traveling public should avoid the area.
