Anne Arundel County Employees Continue to Show Sharp Drop in Loss Time Injuries

Annapolis, MD (July 24, 2006) - Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens announced the positive trend continues regarding the number of day’s lost and total cost incurred for injuries on the job.

For the first half of the 2006 calendar year, "Days Lost," "Light Duty Days," and "Total Incurred Losses" based on OSHA reports along with projections for the year, are significantly better than Calendar Year (CY) 2005 and in previous years.

"This new information proves our personal commitment to employee safety, on-going training, and the importance of communication with all County employees regarding safety on the job," said County Executive Owens.

The breakdown is as follows:

  • "Days Lost" for the first six months of CY 2006 are 3,399 - projected at 6,788 for the year. This compares to 9,258 "Days Lost" in CY 2005, a 27% reduction.
  • "Light Duty Days" for the first six months of CY 2006 are 1,177 - projected at 2,354 for the year. This compares to 4,137 "Light Duty Days" in CY 2005, a 57% reduction.
  • "Total Incurred Losses" for the first six months of CY 2006 are $1,098,586 - projected at $2,197,173 for the year. This compares to $4,457,344 in CY 2005, a 51% reduction.

These totals represent all County agencies, the Board of Education, Anne Arundel Community College and the Anne Arundel County Library.
