| Left Turns from Walmart onto Russet Green East Restricted on Trial Basis
Annapolis (November 9, 2006) – The Department of Public Works, Traffic Engineering Division announced today that effective Monday, November 13, 2006, motorists exiting the Walmart located on Russett Green East in Laurel should be aware of a new traffic pattern. Beginning Monday, left turns from the Walmart access driveway onto Russett Green East will be prohibited. Motorists wishing to turn left onto Russeet Green East should use the adjacent, signalized intersection at Sam’s Club/Ridgemere Crossing.
In response to community concerns about accident patterns at the Walmart exit, the Traffic Engineering Division studied the intersection and determined that left turns from the Walmart driveway were contributing to the accident problem. As a result of the study, the Traffic Engineering Division will restrict traffic exiting the Walmart to right turns only on a trial basis. This temporary turn restriction will be re-evaluated following the holiday season.
Signs will be posted on the Walmart site directing traffic to the appropriate driveway.
