County Executive Leopold Announces Temporary Hiring Freeze

'

Annapolis, MD (December 13, 2006) - Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold called for a temporary hiring freeze effective today through June 30, 2007.

"Consistent with my on-going effort to exercise budgetary restraint and identify efficiencies in Government, I have today called for a hiring freeze to lay the groundwork for future savings," said County Executive Leopold. "I am taking this action with the fullest confidence that essential, quality services will continue to be provided to the citizens of the County at less cost."

This suspension of hiring will not impede the hiring of emergency personnel who provide public safety services for the county and will ensure that current employees will be placed in available positions.

This Administrative Procedure applies to all employment within the executive branch and exempt contractual employee agreements not fully accomplished prior to today’s date.

This procedure shall be in effect from 12/13/06 through 6/30/07 unless such period is either shortened or lengthened by the County Executive.
