Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Days

Residents divert household toxins from landfill, environment

(October 9, 2006) - Anne Arundel County residents can drop off unwanted household hazardous products, such as oven cleaner or pesticides, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 21st at the Millersville Landfill and Resource Recovery Facility located at 389 Burns Crossing Road in Severn.

This service is one of two remaining Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Days for the year. Each year, the Department of Public Works holds eight drop-off days. The last drop-off day for the year will be on Saturday, November 18th at the Glen Burnie Convenience Center. The 2007 schedule has not yet been determined, however, drop-off days are expected to resume in March 2007.

Residents are reminded that the best practice is to use up chemicals, pesticides and other household products entirely for their intended use. If a product cannot be used in full, then the County’s program is the next best alternative. Products containing toxic chemicals include: oven cleaners, wood preservatives, pesticides, flammable liquids, oil-based paint, fluorescent light fixtures, non-alkaline batteries, and disinfectants.

This service is available to Anne Arundel County residents only. Residents will be asked to provide proof of residency. Commercially marked or commercially registered vehicles are not permitted to participate in the Household Hazardous Waste drop-off days.

Over half of the material accepted is recycled. The remainder is disposed at a properly licensed landfill or incinerator. For more information please call: 410-222-7951 or vist the Public Works Website.
