Glen Burnie Water Main Break Update

'

Annapolis (December 29, 2006)—The Department of Public Works reports that the 12” water main that ruptured earlier today is expected to be repaired by 5:00 p.m. this evening. Water service will be restored to all residents and businesses that are currently impacted by the break at that time.

The break occurred at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning under northbound Ritchie Highway at Mountain Road in Glen Burnie.  The break was isolated by 12:15 and repairs immediately initiated.  The cause of the break remains under investigation at this time.

Initially, when water service is restored, the water may be slightly discolored due to changes in pressure and naturally occurring sediments that are found in water lines.  If customers notice discolored water, run cold water from the tap until it runs clear.

One lane of northbound Ritchie Highway has been reopened; however, road repairs are expected to be on-going throughout the night and possibly over the holiday weekend.  Motorists should use caution and be aware of traffic control measures in this location until permanent repairs can be made.
