Free Public Meeting Addresses Seasonal and Pandemic Flu Preparation

September 14, 2006 (Annapolis) - What is the difference between bird flu and pandemic flu? How have previous flu pandemics affected Anne Arundel County? What is one of the easiest ways to prevent the spread of flu viruses? These and other questions will be answered at "Seasonal, Avian and Pandemic Flu: What You Need to Know and How to Be Prepared," a free public meeting on Saturday, September 16, 2006. The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in the Sajak Pavilion Auditorium (Suite 250) at the Anne Arundel Medical Center, 2002 Medical Parkway in Annapolis.

Health care and emergency preparedness experts from the Anne Arundel County Department of Health, County Office of Emergency Management and Anne Arundel Medical Center will discuss facts about influenza; hospital preparation for seasonal and pandemic flu; and the County’s emergency response to a flu pandemic. Hand sanitizers, tip sheets and other items to help individuals and families prevent the spread of flu viruses will be handed out. Refreshments will be provided.

To make reservations, call (443) 481-4000. For more information, call the Department of Health’s Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response, (410) 222-4115.
