County Executive Leopold Applauds Budget Office for Receiving National Award

Annapolis, MD (December 7, 2006) - Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold announced the County’s Budget Department has received the "Distinguished Budget Presentation Award."

The award was presented by the Government Finance Offers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) and reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive this award, the entity had to satisfy national recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as:

  • A policy document
  • A financial plan
  • An operations guide
  • A communications device

Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories to receive the award. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.

"The budget office has won this award in the past, said County Executive Leopold. "It just confirms that the budget office is a cohesive group of professionals working to make Anne Arundel County Government more efficient."

In addition, the County’s Finance Department has regularly received the "Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting."

The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving 14,000 government finance professionals throughout North America.
