| Major Fiber-to-the-Premises Project Launched Annapolis (May 2, 2005)- The Anne Arundel County, Department of Public Works, announced that the first series of right-of-way permits have been issued to Verizon Maryland, Inc. for installation of Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) technology. This technology provides access for advanced services such as high-speed, broadband products and more reliable service to County residents. Anne Arundel County expects to review right-of-way permit applications from Verizon for communities County-wide over the next year. "This will be a powerful tool for our residents, small businesses, and our Gold Coast in this digital age," said County Exeuctive Janet S. Owens. The approved permits allow Verizon crews and Verizon contractors to work in the public right-of-way along County roadways. Work is also expected in utility easements on private property. Utility easements provide access to utility companies for maintenance and repair of existing lines, or in the case of Verizon’s FTTP project, to add new services. Utility easements on your property would be described in the deed to your property. Work is currently underway in Crofton, Dorr’s Corner, Parole, and Severna Park. Residents will be notified 2-4 weeks prior to construction by a door hanger left by Verizon representatives. Another door hanger will be left 72 hours prior to construction, and finally, a door hanger will be left after construction is completed. During the construction process, the Bureau of Highways in the Department of Public Works will monitor work for permit compliance. >> Questions or concerns about the permitting process All questions regarding Verizon’s construction work should be directed to the telephone number listed on the door hanger. |
