County Executive Honored As "First Women" Award Winner at YWCA TWIN Banquet

Two-Time TWIN Recipient Honored For Role As First Women Anne Arundel County Executive

Annapolis (June 9, 2005) - Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens, a two-time YWCA Tribute to Women in Industry (TWIN) Award recipient, was honored this week with the YWCA TWIN "First Women" Award. The honor recognizes an accomplishment by women in Anne Arundel County who achieve positions never before held by women.

"I am extremely proud of this award," Ms. Owens said. "I was also very proud to share the stage with past honorees Carol Parham and Marty Smith. We owe the YWCA our thanks and gratitude for their efforts to empower women and families through parenting and educational classes, career services, domestic violence and crisis programs and so much more."

Since 1986, more than 600 women have been chosen for the TWIN award by over 200 local businesses. TWIN Honorees are women whose contributions benefit business, the community, and who, most importantly, create a pathway for others to follow. They are leaders and role models for success.

Ms. Owens is a former member of the YWCA Board of Directors.
