County Executive Signs $1 Taxi Cab Gasoline Surcharge Legislation Into Law

'

Measure Will Immediately Help Offset Rising Cost of Gasoline

Annapolis (September 7, 2005) – Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens signed bill 62-05 today, allowing cab drivers in the County to charge a $1 surcharge for all rides. The legislation authorizes the surcharge due to the increase cost of gasoline.

“I signed this legislation as soon as I could to assist the cab drivers and cab passengers of this County,” the County Executive said. “Hopefully, this will provide some relief in light of the increasing amount of money it cost to operate a taxi cab. We will also continue to monitor prices at the pump to ensure that our residents have reasonable access to taxi cabs.”

Ms. Owens requested the legislation on behalf of the County Taxicab Association to combat the rising cost of fuel. The law is effective immediately.
