Overflow Stopped As Crews Repair Break On Riva Road

Annapolis (August 18, 2005) - The Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works (DPW) reported a force main break overnight on Riva Road at the entrance to the Sylvan Shores Pumping Station. Early estimates indicate more than 10 thousand gallons of wastewater overflow.

DPW crews believe the overflow entered Beard’s Creek at the mouth of the South River. The public is advised to avoid contact with the water in that area until repairs are made and the County’s Health Department determines that the water is safe for contact. If anyone should come into contact with the water in the affected area, hands and clothing should be washed immediately.

Updates on the affected areas may be obtained by calling water quality phone line at 410-222-7999.
