County Executive’s Proposed Budget Helps the County’s Senior Citizens

'

Annapolis (May 5, 2005) - Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens’ proposed FY 2006 budget supports Anne Arundel County citizens with funding for the Department of Aging’s Family Dinning Program and the Senior Farmers’ Market Voucher Program.

“Years ago, I had the privilege to serve this County as the Director of the Department of Aging. That job taught me many things, including the importance of helping our County’s senior citizens eat nutritious, well-balanced and healthy meals,” Ms. Owens said. “That is why my proposed FY 2006 budget funds two important programs, the Family Dinning Program and the Senior Farmers’ Market Voucher Program.”

THE FAMILY DINING PROGRAM

The Family Dining Program is available to Anne Arundel County residents 60 years and older and adults with disabilities 18 years and older who meet certain income requirements and reside in senior housing. This program allows participants to purchase up to 24 Family Dining Vouchers per year at a discounted cost of $4 or $5 per Dining Voucher based upon their income. During FY 05, participation in this program grew from 464 to 1,319 residents.

Participants can choose from the following family dining style restaurants:
