County Executive Exercises Line Item Veto

'

Annapolis, MD (December 22, 2005) - Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens today exercised her right to Line Item Veto an Amendment regarding trailers in residential zoning districts.

The Anne Arundel County Council passed bill 78-02 Monday, which contained Amendment 26, a provision banning all types of trailers including horse and boat trailers. The intent of the bill is to phase out and ultimately prohibit trailers as outside storage in residential areas.

"Horses and boats are the very fabric of Anne Arundel County," said County Executive Owens. "In no way could we support such an Amendment."

"I am vetoing Amendment Number 26 because it would have the effect of prohibiting horse and boat trailers from residential zoning districts. Councilwoman Cathleen Vatale informed me that this was an unintended consequence of her amendment and requested that I take action," added Ms. Owens.

Bill 78-02, with the vetoed Amendment, takes effect 45 days from the County Executive’s signature.
