Department of Health Receives Mill Creek Test Results

'

Emergency Closing Remains in Effect

Annapolis (December 22, 2005) - The Anne Arundel County Department of Health has ordered that the emergency closing of Mill Creek in Arnold remain in effect based on water samples collected from the creek following a wastewater line break on December 17. Bacterial test results show that water quality conditions in Mill Creek are not acceptable for recreational water use, as determined by standards set by the State of Maryland and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The Department warns against wading, swimming and other direct water contact; fishing; and crabbing in Mill Creek until further notice. People coming in contact with the affected water should wash well with soap and warm water immediately. Clothing should also be washed.

Public drinking water has not been affected by the wastewater spill.

For up-to-date information on the Mill Creek closing, visit the Department of Health Website at or call the Water Quality Line, (410) 222-7999.
