Annapolis, MD (September 23, 2005) - Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens was on hand to welcome home the men and women attached to the deployment of Anne Arundel Counties Mobile Command and Communications Unit. The Communications Team, made up of 15 Anne Arundel County employees returned to the Logistical Center in Millersville, MD at 9:30 pm Thursday, September 22, 2005. According to Ms. Owens, "I am so proud of the work these men and women were able to accomplish while in Louisiana. The fact that our group was responsible for connecting doctors with hospitals, and emergency crews with people in need, is a real testament to their hard work." The group was deployed Monday, September 5, 2005 to Jefferson Parish, Louisiana and was responsible for establishing communication at 6 clinics and served about 3,000 patients. Fire Chief Ronald Blackwell says, "We are grateful for the safe return of all that were there and are also extremely happy to have been of service." Meanwhile, according to Chief Blackwell, "We are mindful of the potentially catastrophic events in the Gulf Region with Hurricane Rita, and have directed equipment and staff to be prepared to respond if requested." |
