Over 9,000 jobs added in 2004, more than double 2003 numbers
Annapolis (August 8, 2005) - In a report released today by the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (MDLLR), Anne Arundel County is ranked first in the State for total new jobs in 2004. Last year, 9,212 jobs were gained in Anne Arundel County, coming in over 2nd ranked Baltimore County with 8,111 jobs and 3rd ranked Harford County with 4,693 jobs.
In addition, the report ranks Anne Arundel County 3rd in the State for its 4.48% job growth increase over 2003, well over the State average of 1.09%.
Known Statewide for her leadership in job creation, County Executive Janet S. Owens commented today, “This is something we have worked very hard to achieve. I am very proud of the opportunities and economic benefits this growth brings to the residents of this County. These jobs also reflect genuine diversity and opportunities in many sectors.”
Some of the economic wins in 2004 for Anne Arundel County that have contributed to this job growth include the UnderArmour sports apparel distribution center bringing 60 new jobs, defense contractor Titan Corporation opening in the National Business Park creating 600 new jobs, and international health supplier Cardinal Health distribution center which has 200 new jobs. Small businesses also contributed to this growth in 2004 and include government contractor CACI International with 50 employees, Leslie’s Luminaries, a homemade candle business, with 3 employees, and Diegos Mexican Restaurant with 4 employees.
In 2003, Anne Arundel County added 3,999 jobs and was ranked 2nd in the State. |
