Annapolis (July 18, 2005)-The Department of Public Works, Bureau of Utility Operations reported today that a wastewater overflow at the Jennifer Road pumping station has resulted in a spill in excess of 10,000 gallons. Crews immediately responded to a flooding alarm that came in at 8:41 a.m. this morning. Once on-site, crews discovered the overflow and began taking steps to reduce the impact. Tankers and vactor trucks from both Anne Arundel County and Annapolis City are currently on-site to capture the flow which is being controlled at this time. Crews will continue to try and identify the source of the overflow and make repairs throughout the day. Traffic near Jennifer Road and Admiral Drive is expected to be impacted. Motorists should use caution and watch for traffic control measures. The Anne Arundel County, Department of Health has been notified and will issue a separate statement regarding the impact on Weems Creek. In the interim, as a precaution, area residents are advised to avoid contact with the land near the spill and the waters of Weems Creek. If contact is made, hands and clothing should be washed immediately. In addition, Anne Arundel County wastewater customers in this area are urged to reduce the amount of wastewater being discharged from their home or business until the repairs are complete. |
