Joins Congressional Leaders at June 9 Event for Government and Industry

Annapolis (June 7, 2005) - Anne Arundel County will host the 2005 State and Local Homeland Preparedness Briefing on June 9, providing unique perspectives on homeland security trends and funding at the crucial state, local and first responder levels. Top elected leaders, government officials, corporate executives, and experts will gather at the Titan Conference Center in Annapolis Junction from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for briefings, technology demonstrations and networking.

"Anne Arundel County is a leader not just in our own ‘all hazards’ programs to prepare for major natural and man-made incidents, but also in our efforts to support local businesses that improve national preparedness and security. From the Chesapeake Innovation Center, our homeland security business accelerator, to the large defense contractors located here, we are becoming internationally known for our contributions to the homeland security sector," County Executive Janet S. Owens said.

Remarks from Executive Owens and Congressional leaders Representatives Benjamin Cardin and "Dutch" Ruppersberger will start off the morning, followed by in-depth briefings on such topics as funding and programs for inter-operable communications, first responder readiness, and technology. Speakers will include Maryland Assistant Secretary of Transportation R. Earl Lewis, Jr.; Anne Arundel County Fire Chief Ronald Blackwell; Judy Coenen, Anne Arundel County director of the Office of Information Technology; and Jim Weed, director of the Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management.

The event is coordinated by Equity International, a firm specializing in homeland security programming and sponsored by the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp., the Chesapeake Innovation Center, the Anne Arundel Tech Council, Government Security News, Domesticpreparedness.com and HSToday.
