Construction Work to Begin on Bridge Repairs

'

Dicus Mill Road Bridge Closing December 23, 2005 through January 2, 2006

Annapolis (December 15, 2005) - The Department of Public Works (DPW) announced today that repairs to the Dicus Mill Road Bridge over Severn Run will begin this month. The repairs will consist of removing and replacing portions of the bridge deck that are deteriorating and are presently covered with steel plates. Closing of the bridge will be required to implement the repairs because the bridge is only one-lane. The actual bridge closure is anticipated to occur on December 23, 2005 and last through January 2, 2006, while school is out of session for the holidays.

This week, portable changeable message signs will be set at each end of the bridge advising motorists of the impending bridge closure. A detour has been established for the bridge closure. Motorists that normally use Dicus Mill Road to access Gambrills Road from the east or Benfield Road or I-97 from the west will be required to use MD 3 (Crain Highway), MD 175 (Annapolis Road) or MD 32. The detour route will be marked with signs along these routes.

The Department of Public Works understands the temporary inconvenience this project will cause. However, the safety benefits of the repairs will be significantly greater. DPW will endeavor to minimize the inconvenience and will make every attempt to have the construction proceed as smoothly as possible.

The County has contracted with Snake River Land Company, Inc. of Hunt Valley, Maryland to perform the repairs. The cost of this Capital Improvement Project is $ 84,000. The public may contact the Department of Public Works project manager, Daniel Anderson, at (410) 222-7566 with any questions about the project.
