Annapolis (September 29, 2005) - Less than a week after County Executive Janet S. Owens returned from her economic trade mission to China, Anne Arundel County was visited by a high-level delegation of Chinese officials from Sister-city Changde City, Hunan, China, and officials from other jurisdictions in the Hunan province. Earlier this month, County Executive Owens and Mayor Chen Junwen signed a cooperative agreement setting the stage for direct linkages between the two jurisdictions. “The relationship this County now enjoys with Chandge City will clearly lead to partnerships in many arenas,” said County Executive Janet S. Owens. “I am very pleased to host the delegation so soon after representing our County in China. The timing of the visit speaks well of our relationship.” On this particular mission, Chinese officials were interested in learning more about traffic planning and engineering in Anne Arundel County. Yesterday, the group was hosted by the Land Use and Environment Office and the State Highway Administration. Through an interpreter, the delegation learned about the County’s transportation system, funding mechanisms and traffic planning, including a discussion of the planned Annapolis Towne Centre at Parole. The delegation concluded its day by visiting the Maryland State Highway Traffic Operations Center in Hanover. |
