Night-time Lane Closures for Arundel-on-the-Bay Road Planned

'

Annapolis (September 16, 2005) - The Department of Public Works advises residents and travelers on the Annapolis Neck Peninsula to expect night-time lane closures on Arundel-on-the-Bay Road next week.

Weather permitting, the contractor, Schummer, Inc., plans to complete the final connections on the capital improvement force main project on Tuesday, September 20, 2005 and again on Tuesday, September 27, 2005.

The first set of connections, also known as tie-ins, will be installed on Tuesday September 20, 2005 starting at 8:00 p.m. This set of tie-ins will be at two points along Arundel on the Bay Road. One, at the existing pump station, near the intersection with Thomas Point Road, and the second will be in the vicinity of the Hillsmere Elementary School.

The next tie-in for connection to an existing sewer line off of the main line will be done on September 27, 2005 at 8:00 p.m. The location of this tie-in will also be in the vicinity of Hillsmere Elementary School.

The contractor will have traffic control signs, and flag persons to direct traffic. One lane will have to be closed to complete the tie-ins. Lane closures will start at 8:00 p.m. Construction equipment, tanker trucks, lights, and a construction crew will be present. Sewer service is not expected to be interrupted. Each tie-in operation will take several hours, and will be monitored by a field inspector from Harms & Associates and will be coordinated with the County Utility Operations. Fire and Police communication centers have been notified as well.

The Arundel-on-the-Bay capital improvement force main project is expected to be fully completed by December, 2005. For further information, the public may call (410) 222-7537 during business hours. In case of an emergency the public may call (410) 222-8400.
