June 1st Marked The Beginning of Hurricane Season in the Mid-Atlantic Annapolis (June 11, 2004) - With Hurricane Season underway in the Mid-Atlantic, Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens is urging citizens to be as prepared as possible for severe weather emergency situations. The County Executive and Fire Department Public Information Officer, Chief John Scholz discuss hurricane preparedness in a public service announcement that will begin airing Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. on the County's Public, Education and Government Channel. "We want each citizen of Anne Arundel County to be as prepared as possible in the event of severe weather conditions," Ms. Owens said. "Isabel taught us that we need to be ready and that effective planning for any emergency situation can prevent injuries or loss of life." Chief Scholz and the County Executive discuss some household necessities in the event of a hurricane. They also detail family disaster plans and what is needed in your family's emergency supply or shelter-in-place kits.
