Annapolis, Md. (June 14, 2004) - Motorists are urged to use caution and stay alert for traffic control devices and flagmen as sewer line construction begins on West Benfield Road in mid-June. Traffic is expected to be single lane while the other lane is closed for workers constructing a new 16-inch sewer force main. Non-local traffic is urged to use alternative routes such as Benfield Boulevard. The section of pipe under construction is part of the new force main to be extended from the new regional Cayuga Farms sewer pump station under construction off New Cut Road, west of Oakdale Circle. The force main travels from the new pump station along Grover Road and Najoles Road, crosses under I-97, up West Benfield Road from Veteran's Highway towards Severnside Drive and ties in with the existing force main in Benfield Road. The contractor, Marona Construction Company of Colmar, Pennsylvania, began work on the $1,948,000 force main project in March 2004. The force main work along West Benfield Road is anticipated to begin in mid-June and be completed by the end of August, 2004. Work hours will be Monday thru Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Inquiries regarding the day-to-day construction activities may be directed to the on-site inspector, Charles McKee at 443-871-3249. General questions about the overall project may be directed to the Public Works' project manager, Vahid Tayebi at 410-222-7537. |
