Snow Patrol Volunteers Will Help Elderly and Disabled Citizens “Weather” Winter Storms

'

Call for Volunteer Groups

Annapolis, MD (12/29/2004) - Every winter, the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging receives calls from isolated seniors with medical needs and individuals with disabilities for assistance with removing snow and ice.  Meals on Wheels volunteers or caregivers are not able to get down driveways and sidewalks to provide food or medical assistance. Patients needing dialysis cannot safely walk through the mounds of snow and ice to reach the Department of Aging bus that has come to take them to their clinic. These are just some of the problems encountered by the elderly with medical needs or disabled individuals whenever a heavy snow or ice storm strikes in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County.

This winter, the Department of Aging is partnering with the Volunteer Center For Anne Arundel County and the Office of Emergency Management to recruit and deploy church youth groups, scouts, and high school groups as well as adult organizations for the new Snow Patrol.

This is a call for groups to register with the Volunteer Center for the Snow Patrol. Volunteer Groups are needed now and must pre-register in order to help residents with disabilities and medical needs during this winter’s storms.

For a Snow Patrol Intake Form for your group, contact Fay at the Volunteer Center For Anne Arundel at (410) 897-9207 or fay@volunteerannearundel.org. A Snow Patrol Intake Form may also be downloaded from the Volunteer Center.
