Department of Health Reports Granville Creek Remains Closed, Advisory Lifted for Sylvan Shores Section of the South River

'

Annapolis (September 15, 2004) - The Anne Arundel County Department of Health has ordered that the emergency closing of Granville Creek in Riva should remain in effect based on water samples collected from the creek following a wastewater force main failure on September 12, 2004. The Department warns against swimming and other direct water contact in Granville Creek until further notice. People coming in contact with the affected water should wash well with soap and warm water immediately. Clothing should also be washed.

The Department of Health’s September 12 advisory for the South River’s Sylvan Shores area has been lifted. Water sample results show that the Sylvan Shores section of the South River in Riva is in good condition, according to standards set by the Maryland Department of the Environment and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
