Granville Creek and South River Impacted (Annapolis) September 13, 2004-The Department of Public Works reported Sunday night that a force main failure in Riva resulted in the loss of approximately 10,000 gallons of wastewater. The spill was reported at 4:45 Sunday evening. Department of Public Works crews immediately responded to determine the location of the failure and initiate repairs. Overnight, crews established that the failure had occurred at the intersection of Woodside and Meadow Roads in the community of Sylvan Shores. The wastewater reached Granville Creek, off the South River, which is located between the communities of Sylvan Shores, Riva Farms and Hamilton Estates. Heavy equipment and tankers were used to capture the flow during the course of the repair. The area was cleaned immediately upon completion of the work. The Anne Arundel County, Department of Health and the Maryland Department of the Environment were notified of the spill last night. The Department of Health has posted the impacted area and a public advisory will follow this release. The Department of Public Works has determined that force main air relief valve failed which resulted in the overflow. The repair was completed by 10:30 p.m. Sunday night. |
