County Reminds Citizens to Make Every Day America Recycles Day

Annapolis (November 4, 2004) -America Recycles 2004 is launching its eighth annual campaign to promote recycling, buying recycled products, and the conservation of natural resources.  As part of the focus, America Recycles Day will be celebrated on Monday, November 15, 2004. This year’s national campaign theme is "It All Comes Back To You."

The Department of Public Works, Waste Management Services will continue to promote recycling to the citizens of Anne Arundel County and encourage them to make recycling a part of their daily routine.

“Recycling is easy, and its environmental benefits are significant.  Citizens are doing a good job recycling and there is still much more to be recycled, especially paper.  Each of us can do our part by recycling all paper at work and at home,” Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens said.

Paper makes up the majority of the waste stream that still does not get recycled.  Almost all paper products are recyclable, including, but not limited to: cereal and food boxes, hard and soft cover books, junk mail, newspapers, advertisements and catalogs, phone books, boxes, and wrapping paper. Residents and businesses are encouraged to designate a receptacle in the home and at the office for recycling paper and paper products.  Paper should always be kept separate from cans, bottles and jars.

Citizens can also support recycling by purchasing products made from recycled content.  Buying recycled products saves natural resources, reduces waste, and closes the loop.
