Recreation and Parks Advisory Board Seeks Comments

Public Meeting Scheduled for Wednesday, November 3, 2004

Annapolis (November 3, 2004) - The Recreation and Parks Advisory Board will hold the first of two public meetings to obtain comments on the draft Needs Assessment for Land Preservation and Recreational Facilities on Wednesday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m. at Quiet Waters Park.  The Park is located at 600 Quiet Waters Park Drive off Hillsmere Road in Annapolis.

Every six years, all Maryland Counties are required to submit a Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan to the Maryland Department of Planning and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.  This is done in order to maintain each county’s eligibility for land acquisition and park development funding under Program Open Space.  The next Plan is due for submission in 2005.

Anne Arundel County has completed a draft Needs Assessment for Land Preservation and Recreational Facilities and is now soliciting public input on the goals to be identified.  The Recreation Advisory Board, appointed by County Executive Janet S. Owens, is charged with assisting the Department of Recreation and Parks with the establishment of policies and programs that enhance opportunities for public recreation and land preservation throughout the County.  Participation in this meeting will offer citizens the opportunity to present needs and recommendations to the Board and the County staff members will oversee the preparation of the Plan.

A second public input meeting will be held at a location in northern Anne Arundel County during the month of February.

For further information, the public may call Jack Keene at the Department of Recreation and Parks at (410) 222-7317.
