County Executive Honors Outstanding Volunteers

Crownsville Resident Selected as "Most Outstanding Volunteer"
Will Represent County at State's "Maryland You Are Beautiful" Program

Annapolis (September 24, 2004) - Last night, Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens hosted the annual "Outstanding Volunteer Awards Program" at the Arundel Center in Annapolis.  Seven finalists were considered for the "Most Outstanding Volunteer Award." Dr. Carol Brothers, a resident of Crownsville, was selected as the "Most Outstanding Volunteer."  Dr. Brothers will represent Anne Arundel County at the State's "Maryland You Are Beautiful Program.." The six other finalists were William "Bill" Lovelace, Shirley May Little, Linda Greenberg, Kenneth Brannan, Dennis M. Conti and Dan Dayton.

 

 

"Dr. Brothers is one of Anne Arundel County's finest gems," County Executive Janet S. Owens said.  "Her commitment to our community sets a standard for us all to follow."

Dr. Carol Brothers was nominated by Robin Shavitz who wrote that, "Dr. Carol Brothers has been volunteering in Anne Arundel County for over 25 years and has contributed enormously to the well being of others in all walks of life."     

Dr. Brothers is the founder and officer of the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence, 

and represents the Annapolis Women's Center. She is a member of the Executive Council Anne Arundel County Commission for Women and a volunteer facilitator of support groups for victims of domestic violence.  She is a member of the Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Team and volunteers with Chrysalis House and Compassionate Friends.  Dr. Brothers has been a part of Hospice of the Chesapeake Spiritual and Bereavement Center for 10 years.  Additionally, she developed and runs a non profit organization to offer Compassion Fatigue Workshops for individuals in stressful environments.  Dr. Brothers is a volunteer reader and editor of a book written to help counselors learn how to help grieving people. 

The State's "Maryland You are Beautiful Program" will take place Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at St. John's College in Annapolis.
