Reconstruction work to begin on Maple Lane NW in Glen Burnie

Annapolis, Md. (October 22, 2004) -  The Department of Public Works has announced that work is set to begin on October 25, 2004 on a $180,000 project to reconstruct Maple Lane NW in Glen Burnie.  The road improvement project, part of County Executive Owens’ ongoing program to rebuild and maintain deteriorating county roads, will include improvements to the road surface, drainage, curb, gutters and sidewalks.

The project will be accomplished in two phases in anticipation of unfavorable weather conditions over the winter months. Starting October 25, 2004, the storm drain work will begin at 431 Maple Lane NW and continue through the end of December where the project will end at 20 Virginia Avenue. Curb and gutter work and paving for all of Maple Lane NW and Virginia Avenue and will start on April 1, 2005 and end on April 30, 2005.

The County’s contractor, Machado Construction Company, Inc. of Baltimore, will be working Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The public can soon exect to see construction equipment and workers as preparation for work begins.

During both phases of the project, motorists and pedestrians should use caution in the construction area and watch for traffic maintenance devices and flagmen.  Single lane closures are expected during the project work, with temporary road closures of short duration during paving and milling operatins.  Individual driveway aprons will be inaccessible for up to 36 hours while new concrete is curing and on-street parking will be temporarily unavailable as construction work takes place.
