(Annapolis) September 23, 2004 - A contractor installing a new wastewater force main on Brock Bridge Road struck an existing force main this afternoon, breaking the line and causing more than 10,000 gallons of sewage to leave the system. The accident occurred in the 8200 block of Brock Bridge Road at the intersection with Dorsey Run Road at approximately 3:00 p.m. The contractor, Corman Construction, Inc. of Annapolis Junction immediately alerted Department of Public Works, Bureau of Utilities personnel who responded to the scene to initiate repairs. Both the Anne Arundel County Department of Health, and the Maryland Department of the Environment were notified. At this time, it is not believed that Dorsey Run or the Little Patuxent River have been impacted by the spill; however, the Department of Health will post signs if the waterways have been impacted. The Department of Public Works will post the impacted land area. Residents are urged to avoid contact with the area near the spill and to wash hands and clothing should that occur. The project to install a new force main is being conducted under a Utility Agreement between Konterra Limited and Anne Arundel County. |
