Barbara Fisher Also Honored For Years of Service Annapolis (October 6, 2004) - Anne Arundel County Election Director, Barbara Fisher, was recently elected President of the Maryland Association of Election Officials (MAEO). The MAEO represents election boards of the state, counties and City of Baltimore. "I look forward to working with the Board in my new capacity," Ms. Fisher said. "I believe we have a great team in place that will strive to maintain the high standards that have already been achieved." "It is nice to see that others, outside of Anne Arundel County, recognize the dedication and leadership of Barbara Fisher," said County Executive Janet S. Owens. "She is an outstanding asset to Anne Arundel County and will continue being and outstanding asset to the Board." Ms. Fisher, along with the Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and five Directors will make up the MAEO Board of Directors. The Board is responsible for transacting business during the year when it is not feasible to call the entire Association together. The Board also honored Fisher with a special recognition for her years of service. Ms. Fisher began her career in elections as a temporary employee with the State Board of Elections in 1975. Over the next 14 years, her responsibilities grew from Office Clerk to Administrative Aide. Fisher accepted the position of Deputy Director for the Anne Arundel County Board of Elections in 1987 and was selected as the Elections Director in 1997. Ms. Fisher served actively on the MAEO Legislative Committee for the past 13 years. She has also served on the committee to study Polling Place Accessibility for the Disable Voter and the Provisional Ballot Committee. She is currently Chairman of the Legislative Committee and Chairman of the Personnel Committee. In 1999, she received the "Director of the Year" award. |
