County Executive to Join Governor Ehrlich and Delegation on Economic Development Mission to China

'

Annapolis, MD (October 12, 2004) - Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens will join Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. and the Maryland Delegation on an economic development mission to China and Singapore.  The group will depart from Baltimore on Saturday, October 16, and return on Friday, October 22.

The County Executive was invited by the Governor to be a part of the Maryland delegation. "Fostering business opportunities in the global marketplace is essential to Maryland's economy, and this trip will showcase Maryland's most promising industries and technologies in two of Asia's most dynamic and diverse markets.  In addition to this exposure, your participation will enhance my efforts to build new markets for Maryland industries and technologies," Governor Ehrlich wrote in his letter of invitation to the County Executive.

"It is an honor to join Governor Ehrlich and the Maryland delegation on this economic mission to China and Singapore.  This part of the world has been identified as having some of the best partnership opportunities and I will be promoting Anne Arundel County every step of the way!," Ms. Owens said.

The delegation will include more than 20 Maryland-based companies, Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development Deputy Secretary Christopher Foster and Assistant Secretary for Business Development Paul Mauritz, and representatives from the City of Rockville.

Several delegations from China have visited Anne Arundel County in recent months. In September 2004, two delegations from Jiashan County (near Shanghai) and another delegation from Changde City, Hunan Province met with the County Executive.  Anne Arundel County signed a Friendship Agreement with Changde City during their visit.  Today, the County's Chief Administrative Officer Robert Walker met with a delegation from Tieling, China.  This is the second delegation from Tieling, China to visit the County to explore trade, investment and other areas of cooperation.
