Ron Bowen Receives Top Award Annapolis (September 13, 2004) - The Maryland Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers has selected Ronald E. Bowen, P.E., as Maryland's Civil Engineer of 2004. Mr. Bowen is the Director of the Anne Arundel County, Department of Public Works. "It is quite an honor to see Ron Bowen recognized in this way by an organization as esteemed as the American Society of Civil Engineers," said County Executive Janet S. Owens. The award recognizes Mr. Bowen's leadership in trying to balance economic growth while protecting the County's treasured natural resources. The nomination specifically cites his contribution to the WEB-based GIS analysis of the Severn River Watershed and his vision to expand this program to all watershed plans throughout the County. This holistic approach, the first in the State of Maryland, is now used within the Land Use agencies to make permit decisions on a day-to-day basis. Mr. Bowen has been with the Anne Arundel County, Department of Public Works since 1983 and has served as Director since 2001. |
